The World of Tomorrow Revealed: Exclusive Insights Today on Tech Job Fair Podcast.
It was great to be asked by Tech Job Fair to be a guest on their podcast and #LinkedinLive to talk about AI and the future of work. Particularly how this all comes together in my new book INTELLIGENCE.
My interviewer Tripti Sinha asked some very intelligent questions. My answers at the time and some further thinking after the show inspired me to write this blog about how
“intelligence is going to change the world.”
Artificial Intelligence, Emotional Intelligence, Independent Intelligence and Organisational Intelligence.
INTELLIGENCE.
The concept of "intelligence," particularly in the context of technological and industrial advancements, has played a crucial role in each of the industrial revolutions and is setting the stage for what I believe to be the upcoming fifth industrial revolution.
Asked a great question about how each revolution has used intelligence and got us to where we are today. Let's examine this relationship:
First Industrial Revolution (18th - 19th Century)
Primarily human intelligence in understanding mechanics and steam power. Led to the creation of machines that could perform tasks previously done by hand, like textile manufacturing, greatly enhancing productivity.
Second Industrial Revolution (Late 19th - Early 20th Century)
Advanced application of scientific knowledge and electrical engineering. Enabled mass production and brought significant technological advances such as the internal combustion engine and electrical power generation.
Third Industrial Revolution (Late 20th Century)
The facilitated automation in production, the rise of electronics, and the beginning of the information technology era, reshaping industries and societies.
Fourth Industrial Revolution (21st Century)
Integration of cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence. Marked by the fusion of technologies blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres, leading to smart factories, data-driven decision-making, and AI applications in various fields.
The Fifth Industrial Revolution(TODAY)
A collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence, where AI enhances human capabilities. AI systems understanding and responding to human emotions, leading to more personalized experiences. Combining human and machine intelligence to solve complex problems.
The Potential Impact of this new INTELLIGENCE.
Personalization and Customization: Tailored products and services to individual needs and preferences. With a level of precision never seen before.
Ethical AI and Inclusivity: Emphasizing ethical considerations in AI development and ensuring technology benefits all sections of society. Which may have to consider which jobs AI might replace.
Sustainable Solutions: Leveraging AI for sustainable development and environmental conservation. AI itself might be the very thing that helps human being solve our biggest problems around climate change etc.
Massive Job change: As AI enters every market and changes not only the job itself, but the availability of the job for humans to do. As I like to say:
“AI might not replace you yet — but someone using AI probably will.” Dan Sodergren
Each industrial revolution represents a leap in the application of intelligence – from human ingenuity in mechanics and electricity to the sophisticated use of data and machine learning in the digital age. The fifth industrial revolution promises to intertwine human and machine intelligence even more deeply, potentially leading to unprecedented levels of personalization, ethical technology use, and sustainable solutions.
As we move forward, it’s crucial to harness these intelligent technologies responsibly to ensure that they serve humanity’s best interests. The future of work, marketing, and many other fields will be heavily influenced by how we integrate and apply this intelligence.

But it’s worth thinking about some of the key industries that I think will change. The main one being marketing — which is already changing and so let’s list some others too.
Where is this MASSIVE JOB CHANGE?
AI is poised to significantly transform various industries in the future. Drawing from my expertise and insights, here are some key roles AI is expected to play:
1. Healthcare Revolution: AI can personalize patient care, improve diagnostics, and enhance drug development. It's already making strides in early detection of diseases like cancer through advanced imaging analysis.
2. Automated Transportation: The automotive and transport sectors will see further advancements in autonomous vehicles. AI-driven cars, drones, and public transportation systems could reduce accidents, improve traffic management, and lower carbon emissions.
3. Financial Services and Fintech: AI will continue to evolve in managing investments, detecting fraud, and personalizing banking services. It can process vast amounts of financial data for better market predictions and risk assessment.
4. Retail and Customer Service: AI in retail will go beyond chatbots and recommendation systems. We're looking at personalized shopping experiences, efficient inventory management, and even AI-driven fashion design. Whilst in customer service and support chatbots and even voice bots can start doing the work of many millions of people already.
5. Manufacturing and Robotics: AI will enhance automation in manufacturing, leading to more efficient production lines, predictive maintenance, and improved quality control.
6. Agriculture and Food Production: AI can optimize crop yields, manage resources more efficiently, and provide solutions for sustainable farming practices. Something I spoke in depth about at the ADHB conference.
7. Entertainment and Media: The future of AI in entertainment could include personalized content creation, more sophisticated gaming experiences, and AI in music and film production. We are already seeing things produce here which define explanation with video creation.
8. Education: AI can offer personalized learning experiences, automate grading, and provide teachers with insights into student performance. We should help more teachers use AI in the classrooms. We should be teaching teachers how to use AI. Which is what we are doing with AITeacherCourse.com
9. Environmental Protection: AI can play a crucial role in monitoring climate change, analyzing environmental data, and finding sustainable solutions for energy consumption. The idea of planetary computers might sound far fetched but they may be the only way to help us change.
10. Security and Surveillance: Another way humans can change is when AI is used to enhance cybersecurity, threat detection, and privacy protection, although this also raises ethical concerns that need addressing. As what happens when the police use such things in the real world. Is AI there yet — and inflable enough to choose justice? Can it even get the right person — facial recognition software and it’s inherent race bias at present says no…
These roles will be pivotal, but it's equally important to navigate the ethical and societal implications of AI's growth. There's a need for thoughtful regulation and a focus on AI that augments human abilities and works towards the greater good. Which is why Europe is voting to curtail and regulate AI and it’s use…
But what about for technology companies. I truly believe that if employees are not using AI next year for a job — in the tech world — they won’t have a job for long. Which might sound harsh. But this is like someone not using a computer. Or not using email. Or not using social media. But on a scale of speed which is 10 times quicker.
“Before you might have had years to start learning about a new technology — now you have months.” Dan Sodergren
